Encoder TBE/TRE extended to 16 bit and redundancy

The magnetic encoders TRE/TBE from TWK-ELEKTRONIK will be extended by the features 16 Bit in the singletour part and regarding redundancy of the SSI output signal. In the version of a multi-turn encoder TRE, the number of revolutions (12 bits) is also recorded. The position value is available as an absolute value in the standard version.

With the redundant version of the SSI interface, the position value is output twice. These position values are acquired autonomously via two sensor systems, sensor 1 and sensor 2. The power supply can be implemented once for sensor 1 and 2 together or separately for both systems. The 32-bit protocol of the SSI interface is used as the standard protocol. Additional information, such as error bit, 8-bit CRC monitoring of the position value, extension of the protocol ranges up to 64 bits due to additional information can be implemented depending on the application. In addition to the output of the safe position value, the latter also enables the output of a 16-bit speed value. For the acquisition of the speed value, the gate time can be varied at the factory. The standard setting is 100ms.

The customer can select various mechanical variations from the extensive portfolio of mechanical parts; e.g. clamping flange with shaft design, blind shaft for preferably Ø 12 mm, various shaft diameters (Ø 6, 10 or 12 mm), optionally with flattening or feather key or Woodruff key. The radial and axial shaft load is ≥ 250 N. In addition to the version with seawater-resistant aluminium, the housing can also be made of stainless steel (1.4404 or 1.4571) for special requirements, e.g. for offshore applications or requirements from the food industry. The protection class is IP 66 and the temperature range is -40 °C to +85 °C. The electromechanical interface can be designed as a connector output (M12 sensor plug) or cable output.

A service life of 20 years is specified as well as an MTTF value of 177.4 years at +25 °C for each sensor system in the redundant version. Calculation basis for this is the Handbook of reliability data (HRD5) for electronic components used in telecommunications systems. As a controller system, a Cortex 32-bit controller forms the corresponding hardware platform. For the most diverse applications, various scenarios are available with regard to shield connection, DC/DC concepts for the supply voltage and with or without galvanic isolation of the output signals.
